Trip To Minnesota Part 1

Our trip started two weeks ago on a Tuesday night.  Paul and I finished packing for everyone and loading up the car.  Wednesday, we woke up at our normal time and finished packing a few last minute things, picked up some donuts and headed out.  The kids were SO excited to watch their new DVD players that my boss handed down from his kids.  We had some new (and new to them) movies to watch and they could hardly wait.

 

They really did well in the car, we couldn't have asked for better behavior.  Between the movies, snacks and nap time they got through 4 days in the car (2 there and 2 back) with very little incident.

 

We stopped in Moore, OK to eat at a Chick Fil A and let the kids run around for a bit.  My parents met us there and stopped each time we did.  After one more stop on the Kansas Turnpike we were in Kansas City where we stayed the night at a great hotel that had a pool for the kids and happy hour for the adults. 

 

On Thursday we got up ate breakfast and got back on the road.  We stopped at a great park in West Des Moines and had a picnic while the kids played.  After nap time we stopped at a rest stop in Minnesota that had nice trails.  Our next destination was my cousin Corey and his wife Jessica's house.  They had a big party and we enjoyed visiting with everyone and exploring.  That night we headed to my cousin Jan's house where we stayed the remainder of the trip.

The mosquitoes were getting a little rough so we had to cut this hike short! 

On Friday we hung out at Jan's, did our grocery shopping and relaxed.  After naps, we headed out to Poppy's home town of Hamburg, Minnesota.  This little town of about 400 people has an annual festival called Zummerfest.  With baseball/softball tournaments, a duck pond, an awesome playground, a car show and yummy food we were well entertained. 

 

Killing time at the party store resulted in a new obsession with some VERY cheep sunglasses.
